Akio Morita, founder of Sony, a world famous corporation, once said: “A man does not know what he wants until he is shown this”. This is the formula followed by the modern business that, exposed to globalization, has turned the whole world into a single huge market with enormous money and goods flows circulating. Under these conditions, exhibition activity has turned into a specific independent industry with gigantic sales volumes. Exhibitions are not a mere marketing element and ground reconnaissance preceding the invasion of goods. As such, they are factors of dynamic development of this or that country, an indicator of its economy. The world annually deals with exhibitions held on all the continents of different topics and scale – from the largest international exhibitions with hundreds of participants and thousands of meters of exposition area to local ones aimed at provision of local sellers with information. But here, there and everywhere they act both as a compass and a sail for development of entire regions, guiding their way and establishing priorities for a certain business activity. The “Turkel” company was set up in 1993, but as early as in 1998 the company accepted as its major and only activity the arrangement and holding of highly specialized exhibitions of goods and equipment manufactured in Turkey in the following fields: construction, textiles, garment, leather goods, light industry equipment.
Notwithstanding its young age, “Turkel” occupies a strong position in the business environment: the company holds the first position in terms of coverage and rate of holding events among 24 Turkish companies having official exhibition licenses of the Turkish government. What is more, it is the leader in terms of sold exhibition area.
”Turkel” exhibitions have been held in 25 countries on four continents of the world except for Australia, 6000 companies have been standholders, while the total exhibition area has constituted 145 th. square meters. At various times, “Turkel” exhibitions have been attended in Hungary, Greece, Ghana, Denmark, Israel, Spain, Kenya, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and other countries.
A peculiar visiting card of the company is the largest international exhibition of leather and fur industry articles, “LeShow”, annually held in Moscow. Leading Turkish companies in their industries and renowned overseas companies willingly cooperate with “Turkel”. The company database numbers about 35 thousand addresses and telephone numbers of prospective participants, whose interests and requests are a must for “Turkel” project managers. Success is not attained easily, it is thoroughly planned: a special department of the company arranges market research of market peculiarities of this or that country or a territory before the Board of Directors decides on holding of an exhibition of the given subject-matter and determines its grade and level. Company plans are normally made up for a year ahead, and now it is already decided what exhibitions will be held in 2010. Around 17 exhibitions a year on the average – this is the annual production rate of “Turkel”, and an exhibition is annually added to this figure, and some new territory is developed each year. Turkel opened a branch in Moscow in order to coordinate its activities in Russia as Turkel considers Russia as one of the most significant business directions to take. The personnel have to comply with a new task level: if originally only 8 managers worked in the central office, now the company numbers 80 employees together with the Moscow branch.
